MISSION STATEMENT

To reduce the number of youth re-entering the Juvenile Justice System, increase community awareness,  and to enrich the lives of youth incarcerated and on probation.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers / Mentors play an integral role in complementing the services provided by the Nueces County Juvenile Probation Department. Volunteers are utilized in areas that best match their training and interests.

Potential volunteers must meet volunteer requirements. There are several areas in which we rely on the support of volunteers:

Faith based mentoring
Fundraising

Planning programs and events

Justicetransp

3 MYTHS OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY

All Juvenile Delinquents are affiliated with gangs.
 
Truth:  Although gang membership is a significant risk factor for eventual contact with the juvenile justice system, very few offenders have contact with gangs.
 All Juvenile Delinquents are violent and/or use weapons
 
Truth:  It is a common belief that crime rates among youth have risen, which news headlines encourage.  Contrary to this belief, however juvenile violent crime has actually decreased.
Myth #3 All Juvenile Delinquents are hopeless, cannot be helped, cannot change, and/or will not change.
 
Truth:  Proper treatment and rehabilitation services can help many youth currently in the juvenile system become healthy and productive members of society.
